“So you think you know Logistics” Workshop – the “debut” of SLOG Challenge

(VLU, 30/7/2021) – On the afternoon of 25 July 2021, the Faculty of Commerce at Van Lang University had “debuted” the SLOG CHALLENGE by an exciting workshop titled “So you think you know Logistics.”

The Faculty of Commerce at Van Lang University had hosted the SLOG CHALLENGE to provide opportunities for passionate students in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM). The event aimed to attract outstanding students from various universities in Ho Chi Minh City and offer them the chance to learn, compete and promote social awareness toward the roles of Logistics in Business fields. Moreover, the Organizing Committee of VLU’s SLOG CHALLENGE also wanted to create engaging opportunities for the students and enterprises, creating significant values for the community.

The first workshop themed “So you think you know Logistics?” welcomed more than 100 contestants under the lead of two experts in the field. As the masters of their field, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Linh – Business Intelligence Warehousing Lead of Shopee Vietnam and Mr. Tran Thanh Duong – Head of Technology and Quality Assurance of Allnex Vietnam Co., Ltd had helped the students to generalize the fundamental knowledge, explained many questions and advised many case studies.

During the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Linh provided the students with an in-depth understanding of the internal supply chain, reverse logistics, and SCM ethics. In addition, she also explained some inquiries about the stocking and warehousing processes, the efficient warehousing methods of Shopee, and several instant solutions for the mismatches between WMS and the actual numbers in stock.

As an experienced staff in operating the Technology and Quality Assurance at a big company, Mr. Tran Thanh Duong had introduced detailed lectures in specialized terms such as Cycle time, Downtime, Lead time, which helped the students to understand the manufacturing process at a factory. Mr. Tran Thanh Duong said: “Currently, Logistics is one of a back-boned and potential career. The optimization benefited from Logistics will also allow the enterprise to maximize their profit.

After the workshop, the Organizing Committee helped the SLOG CHALLENGE contestants to sit a multiple-choice quiz for the second round. After signing in to the interface, the contestants must answer six questions based on the discussed matters at the workshop within ten minutes. Then, they should receive the essay topic and have to complete it within one week to complete their competition in the second round. The official results will be announced after 31 July 2021.


THE TIMELINE OF SLOG CHALLENGE 2021

First-round – Registration (07 June to 16 July 2021): the contestants register individually on the online platform. The Organizing Committee shall select the good submission and invite them to the first workshop and the factory visit. Sixty online submissions should be accepted in this round.

Second-round – Online Case Study Contest (17 July to 02 August 2021): the contestants solve the case studies given by the Organizing Committee based on what they have learned from the first workshop and factory visit. This round will consist of three workshops to help equip the essential skills and knowledge for the contestants.

Third round – Grouping round (04 August to 16 August 2021): the contestants receive the topic for the final round and form a group to work with Mentors who are experienced in Logistics. Fourth round – Final round (17 August to 15 October 2021): in the Final night, the groups should report their achievements and receive feedback and evaluation from the judges.
