Biotechnology Students of Course 23 defend their final theses online

(VLU02/7/2021) – On the morning of 02 July 2021, the Faculty of Technology at Van Lang University had organized the Final Thesis Defense for Biotechnology students of course 23 (2017 – 2021). The thesis is the summary of the learning and researching efforts of both the lecturers and students. The sessions were also a memorable academic activity amid the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

The online final thesis defense for Biotechnology students of course 23 consisted of 23 final theses and was separated into two sessions:

  • First session: Dr. Vu Thi Quyen – Head of Biotechnology Division, MSc. Vu Cong Danh, Dr. Vo Thi Xuyen
  • Second session: Dr. Nguyen Huu Hung – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Technology, MSc. Tran Thi Minh, MSc. Cao Ngoc Minh Trang

To open the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh, on behalf of the Faculty of Technology, shared: “After hardworking months amid the pandemic, it is such valuable achievements and efforts that we are all gathered here today. In this thesis defense, I hope you will remain calm, carry out with confidence to defend what you have learned and researched within the last four months; because it is you that best understand your study’s contents.

Dr. Vu Thi Quyen reminded the students that the time limit for each presentation was 10 to 15 minutes. The final evaluation for the thesis will consist of 30%, 30%, and 40% from the supervisor, committee members, and critics, respectively.

Via an online platform, the students took turns to give a presentation of their study, answered the critic’s questions, and received feedback from the supervisors, critics, and committee members. Therefore, the students shall acquire more knowledge and experience for deciding and choosing the topic title, method of delivery, and methodology.

vlu kltn cnsh bTran Huynh Thien An put his best efforts to defend his final thesis on “Study on adventitious roots formation of Hibiscus sagittifolius Kurz of culture in vitro.” This thesis received applause for the persistence to overcome challenges, approach the research studies in a new language. Thien An also received many suggestions to improve his work.

The supervisors and the committee members highly evaluated the necessity and application of the final theses. All the theses were significantly invested in information summary, data selection, and hands-on approaches. Besides, the lecturers also praise the students for their persistence and hard work as they had to complete their theses amid the social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. These theses might not be perfect yet, but they will be the base for future biotechnologists developing their later careers.
