The Faculty of Accounting – Auditing organized the academic contest “Accounting Contest 2021.”

(VLU27/06/2021) – The “Accounting Contest 2021” organized by the Faculty of Accounting – Auditing took place on 02 June 2021. After a month of competing, the first prize was awarded to To Tran Tien – Accounting student of course 24 at Van Lang University.

The Accounting major at Van Lang University is an accredited applied training program for many years. The major is known for the “Enterprise Accounting Simulation” program dedicated to third-year students. The program is specially delivered by chief accountants to help the students acquire a practical approach for their future careers. Moreover, periodical academic contests shall help the student summarize and use their knowledge, improve their thinking and elevate their skills. The well-achieved students will be nominated to participate in larger-scale contests on behalf of the faculty.

“Accounting Contest 2021” was the latest competition for Accounting students, starting from 02 June 2021 with two rounds, which were First Round – General Knowledge (02 – 04 June 2021) and Second Round – Essay Competition (06 – 15 June 2021).

In the First Round – “General Knowledge”, the student should answer 30 multiple-choice questions within 45 minutes on the E-learning platform. The questions included principles of accounting, macro, and microeconomics... to help the students improve their knowledge in most basic theories, principles, and skills of Accounting.

Once the First Round finished, all contestants moved on to the Second Round - “Study about International Financial Reporting Standards – IFRS). In this round, the student should write an essay from 1,500 to 2,000 words focusing on the matters related to IFRS (its history, issuing and administrating party, the importance of IFRS, applying timeline, challenges and opportunities when applying in Vietnam, the differences compared to other regulations and standards...)

After a month of interpreting, the Organizing Committee had defined the best students, which were:

  • First prize: To Tran Tien (Third-year student)
  • Second prize: Ta Thi Thanh Hoa (Third-year student)
  • Third prize: Tran Ngoc Phuong Nguyen (Third-year student)
  • Most outstanding group: K25KT8
  • Most outstanding individual: Bui Thien Nhu (Third-year student)

Having achieved the highest-graded essay on “The differences between the IFRS 15 and 14 and their influences to Vietnamese enterprises when applying the IFRS”, To Tran Tien said, “This is my first time participating in a faculty’s specialized contest, so I was distraught. I was concerned that my topic of choice was a popular research theme. The limit in length was from 1,500 to 2,000 words, so I had to extract the most valuable materials to help the readers understand and evaluate. With the instructions of my lecturers, I found my confidence and completed my submitted work.”

The “Accounting Contest 2021” brought terrific knowledge for the students and helped them practice their professional skills in Accounting – Auditing profession. This activity also enriched the lively academic activities at Van Lang University during the social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
