Workshop "Portrait of HR 4.0" for students majoring in Human Resource Management

(VLU, 19/05/2021) – On May 17, the Faculty of Business Administration of Van Lang University held a workshop on the topic "Portrait of HR 4.0" to provide detailed orientation on future careers for 24th class students majoring in Management Human Resources.

The Faculty of Business Administration of Van Lang University held a workshop on the topic "Portrait of HR Recruiter 4.0" - an extension of the curriculum of the Business Administration Faculty of students majoring in Human Resource Management, give them opportunities to approach businesses and constantly update practical trends, creating a premise  to integrate in the future working environment.

The workshop was hosted by speaker Nguyen Thuy Van - Human Resources Director of Hung Vuong Saigon Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. From the faculty of Business Administration, MSc. Tran Duc Tai – Vice Dean, MSc. Nguyen Thi My Xuyen - Lecturer, and students of the 24th course majoring in Human Resource Management attended the workshop.

Due to the complication of the Covid-19 epidemic, the workshop was held on a small scale, but the students were very enthusiastic in listening to the speaker's sharing. Here, students are familiar with the content in the recruitment process, helping them apply in real jobs in the future.

In human resource management, recruitment is the process of finding and recruiting the most suitable candidate for the position being filled with time and cost effectively. In order to help students visualize real work, speaker Nguyen Thuy Van shared in detail about the main job of an employer, including:

  • Receiving recruitment requests from departments;
  • Planning, sourcing, cost, completion time;
  • Screening candidate profiles, inviting interviews;
  • Interview, evaluation, salary proposal and job acceptance procedures;
  • Follow up on probationary and completion evaluations.

According to Ms. Thuy Van, when participating in an interview, the first impression of the employer is very important. Every gesture and behavior of the candidate is considered to make a decision. According to her, keywords such as: "I want to try", "I want to learn", "I can do anything",... should be limited in use in the interview because they show a lack of determination and personality. In addition, the speaker also introduced VLU students about DISC - a tool to analyze human personality, helping employers find suitable personnel for the vacancy. According to DISC, human behavior is divided into 4 main groups: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance. Through observing behavior, recruiters will find out the specific characteristics of the opposite person to select candidates for a certain position.

During the talk, a student asked a question “When recruiting, the employer selected them and confirmed the recruitment, but on the day of accepting the job, the employee did not come. Then how will the employer plan the personnel?" According to speaker Thuy Van, if the brightest person doesn't accept the job, they will have to choose the 2nd brightest person, the 3rd brightest. A professional recruitment specialist who does anything must have other plans.

After the workshop, student Hanh Tuyen – 24th course majoring in Human Resource Management shared about recruitment: “There are many different departments such as recruitment department, salary and bonus and welfare department, and training department.… in the field of Human Resource Management. I chose this major because from the beginning I wanted to work with people rather than working with numbers. In this subject, the recruitment part is the most basic part, the first step to create a foundation for the development of the next steps."

The information accumulated through regular workshop activities during the study process has gradually helped Van Lang students equip themselves with a great amount of specialized knowledge to apply to their future jobs.
