Digital Painting Field – Free to be creative with Fine Arts students

(Van Lang, November 16th, 2019) – On November 15th, 2019, Workshop with topic “DIGITAL PAINTING FIELD – Free to be creative” organized by Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts in collaboration with XP-Pen Vietnam Electronic Drawing Company, was held at Painting Hall of Campus 3, Van Lang University (69/68 Dang Thuy Tram Street, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City).

workshop digital painting 1A large number of students of Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts, especially, Graphic Design students come to the workshop to learn more about Digital Painting.

workshop digital painting 2The guest speaker of workshop is MA. Artist. Tran Hai Binh - Lecturer of Hoa Sen University.

MA. Artist. Tran Hai Binh has a respectable “Experience profile” in the field of illustration and Digital Painting. She used to work as an illustrator for Hoa Hoc Tro Newspaper, Red Scarf, Kim Dong Publishing House, Tre Publishing House. In addition, Ms. Hai Binh is the founder of CA BIET fanpage with more than 130,000 followers, where she shares her creative works.

Although she knew about digital painting later than many other artists, then it took three years to learn and learn until she mastered digital drawing tools, Ms. Hai Binh realized the attraction and strong points of Digital Painting. This is an effective tool to help the artist save a lot of time and effort. A picture of the same size and complexity, previously if hand-painted, used to take 3 days to one week to complete, now only takes 3-5 hours when applying Digital Painting. Moreover, the color and shimmer of digital paintings will achieve better effects thanks to the support of the software.

workshop digital painting 3Despite highly complementing the advantages of Digital Painting, Ms. Hai Binh emphasized that the painter himself should not rely too much on technology but must maintain hand-drawing techniques to improve his skills with large paintings and high complexity.

During the workshop, students practiced digital drawing on computers, electronic drawing tablets and graphic software to feel the difference between hand drawing and digital drawing.

Kim Ngan, a freshman of Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts, said: “This is the first time I used technical drawing, but it is very smooth without shaking hands. It is the first time so I am not so familiar with it but I think it will be extremely useful for my job when I become proficient.”

workshop digital painting 9The program is the exchange and answer questions between MA. Artist. Tran Hai Binh and students of Van Lang University took place throughout the program. There are many gifts given to participants who answer the questions by XP-PEN Vietnam Electronic Drawing Company.

Nowadays, the demand for human resources in Digital Painting is huge, with a variety of jobs: illustrators of media publications, magazines, newspaper, advertising content illustrators, concept story-broad movie illustrators, comic artists, cartoon painters, game illustrators

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thanh – Lecturer in Graphic Design of Van Lang University reminds students: “Digital Painting is a new field in Vietnam, and is developing strongly over the years. Digital drawing is very important for students of design group, especially those who are oriented to illustrate books, magazines or online games. You need to grasp and practice the technique of drawing on computers, which support your design projects at university and your good job opportunities in the future."
