Students of international program presented confidently with the workshop “Presenting with confidence”

(VLU, 18/02/2022) – On 15 and 17 of February, 2022, International Education Institute of Van Lang University cooperated with UniKIL MIIT (University Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian Institute of Information Technology) organized a workshop “Presenting with confidence”, which helps students access many methods to improve their presentation skills in the university environment.

The workshop is guided by two speakers that had many years of experience in education from UniKIL MIIT:

  • Mrs. Suguna Saminathan – A senior lecturer in the Student Development Department, she has many years of experience in English teaching and communication. Mrs. Suguna Saminathan has always been active in activities for students, she has a passion for business communication, multicultural communication, research methodology and grammar. Now, she is also a consultant  for UniKIL MIIT.
  • Mrs. Nurhadiana Nurulmatin – Head of the Student Development Department, she is the coordinator of E-learning from 2018 – 2020. Aside from 11 years of experience in English teaching, Mrs. Nurhadiana Nurulmatin is also one of the English moderators at UniKIL, she is always active in teaching short-term skills courses for young generation.

According to speaker Suguna Suminathan, confidence is the most important and necessary element for a presentation. In her speech, she guided Van Lang students the necessary steps to build confidence from thought, action and speech. In the meantime, she also brings many useful tips to help draw and inspire inspiration to the audience. Mrs. Suguna Saminathan encourages the presenter to keep a smile even when a number of small problems occur, always remember to keep eye contact with the audience, making the gestures, and the body language will make the presentation less stressful and boring.

The Covid-19 epidemic has gradually changed the routine of human life, forcing many areas in life to change to adapt, including global education. Most of the schools in the world changed teaching and learning techniques to online form. Both speakers think that young people need to focus and be proficient in information technology skills, learning to develop speech - building techniques, handle computer problems and know how to incorporate unexpected elements in order to keep an enthusiastic and intriguing atmosphere for the audience.  

Participating in the workshop, students also did the Dope personality test with Mrs. Nurhadiana Nurulmatin, which helps them have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses of their own.
