Faculty of Tourism organized Webinar series "Career opportunities and skills to conquer employers"

(VLU03/11/2021)On October 24, 2021, the Faculty of Tourism of Van Lang University cooperated with businesses to organize the Webinar series "Career opportunities and skills to conquer employers" in the seminar "Preparing tourism human resources after Covid-19", giving tourism students an overview of the job market, career opportunities, and skills to conquer employers.

In the context that the tourism, restaurant and hotel industries have suffered a lot from the Covid-19 pandemic, it is always a concern for students to orient, equip them with skills, and facilitate access to career opportunities of the Faculty of Tourism, Van Lang University. At two Webinar sessions, students had the opportunity to directly exchange and listen to the sharing of experiences, job opportunities, and skills needed to conquer employers with speakers who are currently directors, experts in the field of travel, restaurants, hotels from leading businesses and travel groups across the country.

The Tourism and Travel Industry opened the series of seminars with the participation of the following speakers: Ms. Do Nhu Thao - Deputy Director of Human Resources of Saigontourist Travel; Ms. Do Van Anh Thu - Country Director of Lufthansa Group; Mr. Nguyen Buu Lam - Executive Director of Lua Viet Company; Mr. Ngo Van Xuan - Head of Tour Guide Department of Lua Viet Company.

Ms. Do Van Anh Thu shared to the students participating in the Webinar: “Before entering the interview, it is necessary to prepare well for things such as researching the company carefully, judging questions related to knowledge and skills. The experience you need for the position you are applying for, especially understanding what value you want to pursue in your job. Besides, proactively ask more questions to the employer, not only to understand more about your position, but also to determine whether the value of the business is in line with your own. From there, it is possible to make a decision to choose the right job position.”

In addition, the speakers also shared more about the transformation and adaptation of the tourism industry when facing Covid-19, the questions and requirements posed to students during the recruitment process, difficulties and challenges in the process of working.

Continuing the series of seminars, Webinar for students of Hospitality - Restaurant industry with the participation of 3 speakers: Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Human Resources and Training Director of Vinpearl Luxury, Vinpearl Corporation, Vingroup Corporation; Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc - Head of Human Resources Department, Hospitality Department, FLC Group; Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Deputy Culinary Director of InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

Opening the program, Dr. Le Minh Thanh - Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Van Lang University shared the reason for organizing the seminar: "In the current general situation, when the tourism and hotel - restaurant industries begin to prosper, the corporations started posting recruitment for new human resources. In order for students to be well prepared, the Faculty of Tourism decided to cooperate with the organizers of the webinar series of the Seminar "Preparing human resources after COVID-19" to equip students the necessary skills as well as information about career opportunities before entering the labor market in the near future”.

During the seminar, the speakers also brought attractive career opportunities for students such as: "Management Trainee" program at Vinpearl Luxury; front office position, restaurant, HR at FLC Sam Son Beach & Golf Resort and FLC Quy Nhon Beach & Golf Resort and the lobbies, F&B services, kitchen at InterContinental Danang. In addition, the speakers answered questions for students about the notes in the process of making CVs as well as when participating in online interviews with businesses.

In the context of the current COVID-19 epidemic, the series of seminars is an opportunity for students to exchange and learn experiences from recruitment enterprises, connect their professional networks together. Thereby, accumulating for themselves the necessary skills to prepare for the upcoming career journey.
