(VLU22/10/2021– On the evening of 18 October 2021, the Korean Linguistics Major at Van Lang University carried on its activities to celebrate Hanguel Day 2021. The event welcomed the major’s lecturers, more than 80 students, and Ms. Hong Seo Ran – a Korean Calligrapher.

Hangeul Day (09/10) has significant meaning to the Korean because it celebrates the event of King Sejong’s introduction of the Korean alphabet – an academic and cultural invention for the Korean and the world. Every year, Korean-speaking educational organizations in Vietnam usually hold various activities to celebrate Hangeul Day. On the 575th anniversary of the introduction of Hanguel, the Korean Linguistics Major at Van Lang University organized a series of activities, including multidisciplinary and exciting mini-contests, to facilitate the major’s first-year students to adapt and get familiar with the Korean cultures.

  • HANGEUL FOOD ART: this activity took place from 10 to 14 October. The Hanguel Food Arts evaluated the student’s works in terms of the artistic sense, idea, and decoration. The result was based on the voting count on the Fanpage. The contest attracted numerous students who were interested in cuisine and especially Korean cuisine. Most of the submitted works were highly invested, well decorated, and depicted the charms of Korean cuisines.
  • QUIZ ON HANGEUL: the contest had a question bank of 20 questions related to Hanguel. Those questions provided not only helpful knowledge but also an exciting activity for more than 60 students.
  • THE BEAUTY OF HANGEUL: the Korean handwriting contest had Ms. Hong Seo Ran – a Korean calligrapher, as a judge. With a strict requirement for concision and clean display, the students had to finish their works within the time limit and demonstrate to the judges and audiences.
