Online seminar on the Development Potential of E-commerce and Logistics amidst the Covid-19 pandemic

(VLU03/9/2021) – On 28 August, the Faculty of Commerce organized the online seminar on “Development Potential of E-commerce and Logistics amidst the Covid-19 pandemic” to provide the Logistics and SCM students with understandings of E-commerce’s career prospects. The event attracted more than 300 students.

During the seminar, Mr. Tran Lam – Lazada’s Ambassador, discussed the operating procedures of the current most well-known online shopping platform. Mr. Tran Lam is also the CEO of famous brands such as July House, Loli & the Wolf, Macaland, HeVieFood, BuB&Mum, and the co-founder and mentor of many other brands. Thanks to his significant experience, especially in doing business during the digitalized era, he had provided helpful information related to the tremendous development and changes of E-commerce amidst the 4.0 age.

According to Mr. Tran Lam, the reason for e-commerce’s tremendous winning of customers over traditional selling models is their unique competitive advantages, such as regular and on-demand supply, the convenience in purchasing, payment, and refund. More importantly, during the social distancing, the door-to-door delivery could occur with zero contact, which prevented the risk of catching Covid-19. He also shared that if the numbers of orders soar, the e-commerce platform, especially Lazada, could take appropriate actions such as vaccinating warehouse staff and shippers to prevent infections and extending the fulfillment operating model to satisfy enormous orders every day.

Further to the necessary factors when considering doing business on digital platforms, Mr. Tran Lam pointed out four essential aspects: market, product’s value, sales channel, and customer service policies. For this matter, Nguyen Kim Phuong Nghi (Commerce student) asked: “When considering starting a business on the e-commerce platforms, is it recommended to put the products on various platforms or just on a single platform such as Lazada or Shopee?” – Answered Mr. Lam: “It is a recommendation to put the products on various e-commerce platforms to promote the customer’s engagements. However, it is necessary to consider the current capacities and situations to identify the suitable product lines for each type of e-commerce platform. Then, we could decide which platform will be the most feasible.”

In the seminar, Commerce students had enthusiastically discussed and acquired detailed explanations from the speaker. On the other hand, Mr. Tran Lan believed that Commerce students, especially the Logistics and SCM ones, should be likely to get a job in various positions such as Marketing, Promotion Strategies Development, Freight Systems Development, and Warehouse Operation at big sales brands or e-commerce platforms.
