Faculty of Tourism continues to organize seminars on the organization and operation of group tourism in France

(VLU25/7/2021- Following the activities of a series of seminars on the French tourism market, on July 22, 2021, the Faculty of Tourism of Van Lang University cooperated with the Francophone University Organization AUF and Images Travel Company held a seminar "Organizing and operating group tourism in France - Career prospects: Designing and selling tours in Réceptif, selling to Francophone travel agencies". Francophone students listened, actively contributed ideas and asked many lively questions through the Zoom online application.

The conference was attended by Dr. Trinh Thi Thuy - Lecturer at Van Lang University's Faculty of Tourism, in charge of the French - Vietnamese Dual Diploma program, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Director of Images Travel and Mr. Michel Salaün - Chairman of Salaün Group - a group with a strong network travel agency system in Belgium and France.

Together with the previous workshop on 8/7 and 15/7, all the content in the program was presented entirely in French, it was therefore a bit challenging for first-year students who just started to learn French. Therefore, in this seminar, the organizers made timely changes to meet the needs of students who are interested in the program and open up opportunities for many people who love the France tourism industry to attend.

At the opening, the workshop was led in Vietnamese, Dr. Trinh Thi Thuy introduced information about the training program and typical activities of tourism students in general and students of the French - Vietnamese Dual Diploma program at VLU in particular. At the same time, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Director of Images Travel gave a passionate presentation on how to buy and sell tours in the Vietnamese and the French market.

Through illustrative diagrams, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan analyzed the tourism system in France and described the functions of each department that handles each stage of a tour order. Prominent parts of the tourism business model in France include: Voyagiste (tour operator), Agent, Services groupes, Réseau/Agence, Central GIR, Réceptif, etc. The presentation helped the attendees visualize the overall picture of the tour operation process for joint guests (GIR) , group guests (GROUP) and Outgoing tourism model.

The biggest difference between the tourism system in France and Vietnam is the Réseau model. Réseau operates almost like a miniature company, consisting of groups of agents under the same brand to form a professional agency system, while our country's travel agencies do not have this model, but only operate independently.

Besides, the catalog is a typical product of travel companies in France. All information about the company's tours, itineraries, means of transportation, hotel services, cultural characteristics of the lands customers will experience, in-depth articles on tourism, etc are all included in this publication. Each tour, each service or image used is assigned a specific code and detailed annotation, so customers can easily search for information to choose a suitable tour. This also helps tour operators easily advise and meet the different needs of many customers.

In particular, questions about operating a DMC Inbound company (a company serving foreign tourists buying tours to Vietnam) and frequently used words in the travel work group in France were also analyzed carefully for the students.

Overcoming the pandemic, the tourism industry will prosper again

In the second part, the workshop was entirely in French. Speaker Michel Salaün - Chairman of Salaün Group analyzed the recent situation of the tourism industry in France and predicted the tourism market in the post-Covid era.

He said that according to data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the tourism industry has lost more than 1.3 trillion USD in 2020. This number is 11 times more than the damage during the global economic crisis 2009. It is estimated that at the beginning of 2021, about 120 million direct jobs in the tourism industry are at risk, the majority of which are in small and medium enterprises.

Having said that, he thinks the tourism industry still has good reasons to stay positive. "We can overcome the crisis by the end of 2022 thanks to the replication and dissemination of vaccines and the establishment of vaccine passports. On July 17, the French government announced the good news that people who have been fully vaccinated will not be bound upon returning home from a holiday abroad from any country even if the countries are on the red list. We can see that the French always want to travel, now that desire is even bigger to forget about Covid."

vlu hoi thao du lich 4 cAlong with the speaker's presentation, the attendees asked questions about how to overcome the difficulties of Salaün Group during the epidemic season.

After summarizing and analyzing, he advised travel companies to calmly adapt to the situation and consider this an important time to focus on learning about the market, maintaining a network of partners and meeting new suppliers, ready to accelerate business operations once the pandemic is under control.

Mr. Michel Salaün also did not forget to give encouragement to students studying Tourism: "You must remember that Tourism is an interesting field and still offers great prospects. Despite the crises that tourism has encountered, it has always been resilient and will continue to do so. Your daily mission will be to erase boundaries between people and between countries. Thanks to you and all those who work in the tourism industry, people-to-people, cross-cultural encounters are realized and promoted. Therefore, tourism will make the world a better place after the pandemic."

Not encapsulated within the framework of an ordinary seminar, the seminar "Organization and operation of group tourism in France - Career prospects: Designing and selling tours in a Réceptif, selling to tourism agencies in the bloc French" as a class in which students can both improve their French and learn useful knowledge for their future career. In addition, the event also received positive attention from students from Laos, Cambodia and French-speaking guides.
