Van Lang University won 02 best papers prize at International Conference ICAMEROB 2021

(VLU, 24/8/2021) - On August 20 and 21, 2021, Van Lang University in collaboration with Mechatronics and Robotics Society of The Philippines (MRSP) co-organized the International Conference on Automation, Mechatronics, and Robotics - ICAMEROB 2021. The event was attracted the participation of lecturers from universities in the Philippines, researchers in the ASEAN and many countries around the world. This is also the first time Van Lang University co-organized an international conference in another country, and won 2 awards for the best scientific article.

International Conference on Automation, Mechatronics, and Robotics – ICAMEROB 2021 is held annually in the Philippines. In 2021, the conference will be held for the third time and will focus on the theme "Breakthrough Innovation, Creativity and Resilience by Embracing Change & Transformation through Research".

The event takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 20 and 21, 2021. ICAMEROB 2021 gathers many speakers who are famous scientists in the fields of automation, mechatronics, information technology and robotics, connects more than 100 postgraduate, scientists, lecturers and 6 businesses.

03 main activities of the event include: 8 keynote speeches by reputable speakers, 6 presentations by companion businesses and 26 presentations by authors participating in the workshop.

In addition, 6 units including OnRobot Singapore, Inzpect Technologies, Hytec Power Inc, Cognex Vision System, Omni Fab Inc and Computrends System Technology Inc participated in introducing the latest technology products to attendees.

The most exciting is the presentation of scientific articles by the authors participating in the conference. After nearly 2 months of receiving the articles and conducting the evaluation, the organizers and the review board selected 26 articles of good quality to be presented at the conference under 4 main topic groups: Automation Engineering and Information technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Robotics Engineering and Technology, Industry 4.0 Innovations and Applications.


Faculty of Engineering of Van Lang University won 02 awards for the best scientific article

As a co-organizer, Dr. Le Hung Tien - Dean of Faculty of Engineering, representative of Van Lang University, attended as the Organizing Committee of the conference. At the same time, Dr. Phan Xuan Le - Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering participated in the review at the Technical Council and Ms. Jennifer Baylon Verances - Specialist of the Department of International Cooperation and Scientific Research were members of the Publishing committee.

Significantly, the paper “IoT Based Automatic Transfer Switch with Monitoring and Control System” was written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y Quoc Nguyen - Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering and the authors namely Wilen Melsedec O. Narvios, Spencer M. Unabia and Ferdinand F. Batayola won BEST PAPER prize in session “Automatic Transfer Switch with Monitoring and Control System”.

Abstract of this paper: Lots of people in this world lack electricity and modern lighting. This problem is more severe in rural areas. In most schools, houses, and offices, the management of the lighting system is done manually as per requirement. As the world is advancing, Automation develops and spreading everywhere. In this paper, an automatic light switch device is controlled by face recognition. Face Recognition Automation (FRA) is a biometric recognition technology for processing information about facial features. Similar to other automation it has the advantage: Faster processing of recognizing a face takes a second or less. The studies provide development and advancement of automation control in the individual room. The main purpose of this paper is to improve automation control in the designated room. This paper aims to develop an automated program of accessibility in outlets and switching ON/OFF of lights. Having an auto switch and auto access by a face recognition control results in greater control of safety, flexibility, reliability, and much more precise data. The implementation of the entire Automatic lighting control system has been carried out using Raspberry PI 3B+. The software for controlling the relay switch for switching on and off the light based on the input from the sensor resides inside the microcontroller unit of Raspberry PI 3B+. The code for a sample node has developed and executed. In operating the user will just look in-front of the camera and let the camera recognize the pickles and send data to the Raspberry Pi 3b+ and then send a wavelength to the relay that makes lights and outlet on/off. Therefor Face recognition is one of the best ways in operating that is invented in term of automation, because face recognition system doesn’t need physical contact to any machine upon operating and Face recognition is easy to operate specially for disable person. The researchers encounter many errors of making the research, number one is the delay recognition and Multiple function of switching. However, the system could be enhanced by replacing more power full camera and powerful board. Raspberry pi 4 and OpenMv camera one of the recommendation in order to upgrade the system. If this Recommendation is followed and attain, the system will be improving and the system results more accurate and reliable.

Besides, the paper “CFD Analysis Of Cross-cut Heat Sink For Electronic Cooling” was written by MSc. Tue Nguyen Duy, lecturer of Faculty of Engineering won BEST PAPER prize in session “Mechatronics Engineering and Technology”.

Abstract of this paper: The advancement in electronic fields make devices smaller but high heat flux. Therefore, heat dissipation for electronic devices plays a significant role to ensure their safe and good performance. The heat dissipation components including the heat sink, fans eliminate the heat of electronic devices as soon as possible, or else chips will be damaged, malfunction, sort lifetime by overheating. However, it is difficult to predict its operating temperature. Therefore, the CFD based method has been popularly applied in this field to optimize the design, save time and display the temperature distribution of the electronic device. In this paper, a real cross-cut heat sink’s dimension was obtained, and then its model was developed by Inventor software. After that, a CFD based investigation was conducted to evaluate its thermal performance. The simulation was carried out with different powers and air velocity as well as at two rotation angle such as:0o and 90o clockwise around X-axis to evaluate the operation parameters. The results show that this heat sink could be applied for electronic devices with a power lower than 6 W without the fan. The increase of air velocity can reduce the thermal resistance of the heat sink. Even, the temperature of the 10W chip can go down from 87.5oC to 65oC with the increase of velocity from 0 m/s to 0.25 m/s. Furthermore, at a 90o clockwise angle, chip temperature under natural convection is somewhat lower than that at a 0o angle.

The event marked the efforts of Van Lang University in enhancing participation in organizing international scientific conferences, and affirming the position of the Faculty of Engineering in scientific research activities. Hopefully, from the success of the International Conference on Automation, Mechatronics, and Robotics - ICAMEROB 2021, Van Lang University will continue to develop in cooperation projects and organize international seminars in many countries in the world.
