Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the Faculty’s 1st Student Conference for Scientific Research

(VLU19/7/2021- On 17 July 2021, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Van Lang University organized the Faculty’s 1st Student Conference for Scientific Research on the online platform. The conference welcomed the faculties lecturers, delegates of VLU’s departments, and 235 students of Applied Literature, Psychology, Oriental Studies, and Social Work major.

The conference aimed to promote students’ creative thinking, independent scientific research abilities, self-studying, and research skills. This event was also the basis to select the delegating students to participate in the University’s Student Conference for Scientific Research. The committee and secretaries included the following members:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Minh Ha – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (Chairman)
  • MA. Duong Ngoc Phuc – Deputy Head of the Japanese Studies Division (Member)
  • MA. Le Thi Gam – Deputy Head of the Applied Literature Division (Member)
  • MA. Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy – Lecturer of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (1st Secretary)
  • Student Mai Thi Thanh – Literature student of course 24 (2nd Secretary)

On behalf of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Minh Ha opened the meeting: “The 1st conference marks the first graduating batch of the Faculty. Scientific research is a significant part of the curriculum of all programs; instructing the students to carry out research studies is an essential obligation of the lecturers. The scientific research activities trigger the passion and the ability to practice lifelong learning, transfer the knowledge to practical solutions, and develop professional skills for future careers.”

vlu hoi nghi nckh xhnv dThe study on “Analyzing the Musical Parody in Vietnam from 2015 to 2020” authored by Nguyen Trung Nghia – Applied Literature student of course 23

The study of Nguyen Trung Nghia received high evaluation from the critic Dr. Le Thi Ha Van. She commented: “The study practices the target of the Applied Literature and is attractive to the critics. It sets the base for possible exploitations in postgraduate levels such as Master’s or Postgrad studies in not only Applied Literature major but also PR major judging on the facts that enterprise is using parody to promote their brand name.

vlu hoi nghi nckh xhnv eThe study on “Comedy in contemporary theatre arts (a case study of Idecaf theatre)” by Luong Nguyen Xuan An – Applied Literature student of course 23.

The study of Luong Nguyen Xuan An was a continuing project when she carried out research studies and practiced multidisciplinary researches. When she first approached the scientific research activities, Xuan An had shifted to a narrower research topic with a suitable and feasible structure.

vlu hoi nghi nckh xhnv fThe study on “Understanding, Manner, and Behavior of high school students in HCMC for the LGBT community.”

The Psychology student group of course 26, including Dao Thi Hoang Thi, Huynh Gia Thuy Van, and Chu Nguyen Ngoc Tram had participated in the conference with the study on “Understanding, Manner and Behavior of high school students in HCMC for the LGBT community” to express an appropriate and thoughtful approach to the LGBT community and exterminate the school bully by gender discrimination. MA. Bui Thi Han evaluated the study for its particular contribution to the awareness-raising campaign for the social rights of the LGBT community.

vlu hoi nghi nckh xhnv gThe study on “Surveying the behavioral manner in Japanese enterprises in HCMC” by Pham Kieu Thanh Ngan – Oriental Studies student of course 24.

MA. Dinh Thi Le Thu evaluated that the study of Thanh Ngan was efficient, informative, and beneficial to help reduce the behavioral conflicts between Japanese enterprises and Vietnamese employees, which shall prevent unnecessary collisions.

The four-hour conference took place in a dynamic atmosphere with active discussion from both the lecturers and students. The committee highly pointed out that all the studies were practical and efficient. They also expected more diversified studies from all divisions in the Faculty’s 2nd Student Conference for Scientific Research.
