Van Lang University signed an MOU with Chonnam National University (South Korea)

(VLU 01/7/2021) – On the afternoon of 30 June 2021, the MOU Signing Ceremony between Van Lang University and KOR Consortium of Chonnam National University (South Korea) had taken place at the Hoang Sa 2 Meeting Room VLU Main Campus. Due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, the signing ceremony occurred virtually.

The cooperation between Van Lang University and Chonnam National University (CNU) focused on promoting mutual academic exchange in terms of academic material exchange and joining research projects.

At the signing ceremony, CNU introduced Prof. Pyo In-Ju – President of School of Humanities, Director of BK21 FOUR Educational Research Group, Prof. Baek Seung-Ju – Dean of Literature Faculty, Prof. Kim Dong-Geun – Director of the Institute for National Linguistics and Literature Studies, Dr. Baek Hyun-mi – Head of Planning Department, Dr. Lee Jun-hwa – Head of the Office of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jo Kyung-sun – Head of International Programs Department. The ceremony also welcomed professors in charge of Scientific Research and International Cooperation, including Dr. Lee Su-jin, Dr. Choi Ji-yeong, Dr. Baek Ji-min, Dr. Jeong Min-gu, and Dr. Yoo Seok-hwan.

From Van Lang University, we had the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – Rector, Director of the Institute of Linguistics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Ngoc Le – Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr. Ngo Minh Hung – Head of the International Cooperation and Scientific Research Department; Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien, Head of the Korean Language Division and MA. Nguyen Xuan Thuy Linh – lecturer in the Korean Language.

KOR Consortium is direct under CNU (South Korea), consisting of three divisions: Faculty of Literature, BK21 FOUR Educational Research Group, and the Institute for Linguistics and Literature Studies. As a collection of 14 professors, more than 20 MA.s, and research students, the organization is functional in five aspects: Internationa Cooperation and Research in linguistics and literature; Cultural and Multimedia Guidance Program; Culture and Technology Research and Development Program; Regional Research Program and Korean Training Program.

vlu mou vien ngon ngu cOn behalf of VLU’s Institute of Linguistics, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien introduced the cooperation targets.

On behalf of CNU, Prof. Pyo In-Ju, President of the School of Humanities, Director of the HK21 FOUR Educational Research Group, wished to cooperate between KOR Consortium and VLU. He especially hoped that both universities should achieve outstanding achievements in research and training.

At the same event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – VLU’s President said: “It could be said that South Korea is a strategic partner of Van Lang University. The ceremony today shall be the dawn of new cooperation between VLU and CNU. It is our great pleasure to collaborate with CNU. Although the Covid-19 will not end any time soon, we could mutually find the solutions to activate the cooperative schemes to offer significant benefits for the students of both universities. We are looking forward to welcoming CNU’s staff and lecturers to visit Van Lang University soon.”

The ceremony was a basis to open up collaborative opportunities for VLU and CNU in various aspects such as academic support and exchange; establishment of a cooperative business that is deemed necessary for the development of both institutions.

Van Lang University is currently the partner of more than 230 local and international organizations. Among them, 50% of the partners in Asia are Korean. VLU and Korean universities cooperate in many fields such as Linguistics, Korean studies, Fine Arts and Design. Moreover, VLU also received many Korea-funded projects in research and training. Especially in 2021, VLU has officially admitted students in the Korean Linguistics program to cope up with the social and market’s needs. The cooperation with Korean organizations and especially with CNU will create many opportunities for the students to study the Korean Language at VLU.
