Faculty's Council Meeting of the Faculty of Law to approve the new training program in Law and Business Law

(VLU, 03/7/2021) - On the morning of 01 July 2021, the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University had organized the Open Faculty's Council Meeting to collect inputs and approve the latest two training programs, which were Law and Business Law, for the next intake.

The Faculty's Council Meeting at the Faculty of Law welcomed its staff, lecturers, and particular expert researchers on behalf of the Career Association, employers, alumni, and the representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs and the Department of Educational Quality Assurance. The key members included:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Thuy – Dean of the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University
  • Dr. Nguyen Duc Chung – Former Miniter of Justice
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Bich Tho – Former Vice - President of HCMC University of Law
  • Dr. Lawyer Luu Tien Dung – Committee Chief under the Association of Lawyers of Vietnam
  • Dr. Vo Thi Kim Oanh – Former Dean of Criminal Law Faculty of HCMC University of Law
  • MSc. Vu Trong Khang – Chairman of the HCMC Tracent
  • Dr. Pham Thi Thu Phuong – Deputy Judge of HCMC People's Court
  • MSc. Le Tu Phuong Quang – Head Representative of Ministry of Information and Communications, alumni
  • Ms. Truong Nhu Hoa – Chairman of the Consulting Board of Hoang Trung Constructing, Designing and Consulting Co., Ltd., alumni
  • Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien – Deputy Head of the Office of Academic Affairs at Van Lang University
  • Specialist Bui Thi Thuy Trinh - Department of the Educational Quality Assurance at Van Lang University

In the meeting, the expert researchers, lecturers, employers, and guest representatives all-rounded went through the curriculum of the Law and Business Law program for the 27th intake, therefore collecting many precious inputs, which help to improve and complete the programs. As a general summary, the programs for the 27th intake would differ from that of the 26th in the following points:

1/ The curriculum of both programs will reduce its total accumulating credits by two compared to that of the previous year. Some elective courses become core courses. The Faculty suggest adding one more credit hour for criminal cases in the Crimilaw Law course for the Law program. The Business Law program is recommended to add a credit hour to the Import-Export Law and Criminal Law courses.

2/ Meanwhile, the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University also focuses on the order of the course within the 12 primary semesters to reduce the weariness for the students. Significantly, the student of course 27 will have the opportunities to experience many new hands-on, up-to-date, and practical courses, which will benefit their future career, such as Scientific Research Method; Receptionist for Foreign Affairs; Vietnam's Judicial System (delivered in English) and Law for Guaranteed Transaction; International Organization's Commercial Law (integrated from the ASEAN Commercial Law and WTO Law.)

At the meeting, two alumni of the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University expressed their satisfaction with what they learned at the University. According to them, to help the student cope with the employer's requirements and differ from other law trainers, the University should equip the Law students with English proficiency for Law primary and hi-tech utilization skills.

To conclude the meeting, all participating members approved the new training course with the satisfaction for the further improvement to keep up with the trend and employers' demand. There were many inputs to help improve the order of the courses, study load, English, and soft skills training courses for students.
