The night of documentary film "The color of the wither grass" with musician Tran Tien

(VLU - October 26, 2020) - On December 26, 2020, Van Lang University organized a night of documentary film "The color of the wither grass" with musician Tran Tien. The film is directed by Lan Nguyen and her crew continuously for 5 years (2015 - 2020) because of her love for music and musician Tran Tien. Teachers and students at VLU had the opportunity to interact with "Vietnam's No. 1 tourist artist", hear him perform the song Little Sun which was associated with many generations of Vietnamese.

During 2 hours, VLU's teachers and students had the opportunity to enjoy the documentary film about musician Tran Tien - " Vietnam's No. 1 tourist artist". Tran Tien's musical imprint throughout the war and peacetime has evoked the memories of the teachers' childhood and it is a new spiritual dish of generation Z students.

Following the narrative circuit of director Lan Nguyen, the color of the wither grass has brought to the audience valuable documentary films about the portrait of musician Tran Tien. Context of the film was made in many provinces such as Quang Binh, Hanoi and Ha Nam. They were associated with the journey of "the artist wearing military uniform".

Tran Tien's music style through the film reappeared in many stages of life. Many times, the audience together sang familiar songs used as the soundtrack of the film, namely My Sister, Chapi Dream, Goodbye to the swallow or Little Sun, and clapped their hands for the artist's humor when watching the film.

At the end of the 80-minute film screening, VLU's teachers and students had the opportunity to interact with artist Tran Tien and director Lan Nguyen.

Musician Tran Tien said that although theaters had shown a documentary about him, this was the first time he watched the full movie at Van Lang University.

Right on stage, musician Tran Tien performed the song Little Sun composed by himself.

Representatives of the board of directors, teachers and students, Assoc. PhD. Tran Thi My Dieu - Rector of Van Lang University, said: “On behalf of the school leaders, thank you musician Tran Tien not only because of his presence today, but also for his whole life making the film so that both the young and the old generation can enjoy and have quiet time to think deeply. It is a life, a heart for the people, for the community. This is very respectable”.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu said that she herself had never seen the film portrayed with such good songs.

“People don't grow up in storms or in war. People grow up in his loneliness”- musician Tran Tien's insight to war-time angles. When the musician lives in Hanoi or fosters old age in the coastal city of Vung Tau in the film, it has brought a lot of emotions and memories to teachers and students.

Musician Tran Tien (full name is Tran Viet Tien, born in 1947) is one of the famous musicians and singers in Vietnam with lyrical music. Music of artist Tran Tien is well received by the audience, just when a few melodies are played, listeners can sing along. Many short films which are associated with the name of the musician such as My Sister, The Little Sun, Goodbye to the swallow, Why are you in a hurry to get married, The Fatherland Tone ... He was awarded the 3rd worker Medal by the State and the 2007 State Prize for Literature and Arts. Currently, he lives with his family in the coastal city of Vung Tau to enjoy his old age.
