Van Lang University cooperates in tourism training with InterContinental Hotel Group and Swiss Education Group

(VLU -26 August 2020) - On 25 August 2020, Van Lang University, InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) and Swiss Education Group (SEG) signed a cooperation agreement in Tourism training.

The signing ceremony was the presence of Mr. Ian Gibbons - British Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Martin Maier - Consulate General of Switzerland Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Colin McCandless - Regional General Manager of InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG); Mr. Daniel Solombrino - Director of InterContinental Saigon Hotel; Mr. Tarek Kouatly - Asia Pacific Market Development Director, Swiss Education Group (SEG); Ms. Nguyen Hoang Yen - SEG Regional Director, Vietnam Market Development and Management; Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri - President of Van Lang University; Associate Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - Rector of Van Lang University; Dr. Le Minh Thanh - Dean of Faculty of Tourism; together with other representatives of leading units in the field of hospitality training in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the signing ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri - President of Van Lang University - introduced an overview of the university's global development orientation: "Technology has completely changed the tourism industry, so education needs "innovative thoughts". We believe that if students learn what the world is learning and lectures teach what the world is teaching, we soon achieve what the world is aiming for."

Mr. Ian Gibbons, British Consulate General, said he was very honored to attend the signing ceremony today and witness the cooperation between CTH and Van Lang University. The year 2020 is also a milestone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. He is pleased that Van Lang University is highly ranked in many vital disciplines - e.g., management system, administrative planning, resources and assessment process, and internal quality assurance.

Consulate General of Switzerland, Mr. Martin Maier asserted: Vietnam today is at a critical crossroads of economic development. With inherent natural beauty, accommodative people, and a high educational level, Vietnam is at the forefront of the development journey to become an attractive tourist destination, full of potential to compete in the area. The Government of Switzerland will support the local tourism industry in underdeveloped regions - e.g., the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. In cooperation with private and governmental organizations, Switzerland keeps building the framework that serves as the basis of the professional and eco-friendly tourism industry. He hopes that the Van Lang students accept this opportunity and visit Switzerland. At present, Switzerland is supporting the Free Entrance policy. The Consulate General will be more excited to help students with immigration guidance.

The signing of cooperation between Van Lang University and leading units in the field - e.g., the British Hotel & Tourism Federation CTH, InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) and Swiss Education Group (SEG) will be a prerequisite for the development of learning opportunities and job experiences for students. Also, it applies the advanced training programs to real-world environments. Concurring with the orientation, Ms. Doan Tran Phuong Thao - HR Manager of InterContinental Saigon Hotel - shared the upcoming IHG Academy training program with improvements to maximize the opportunity to practice, experience, and work for students from the first year to graduation.

Through cooperation with CTH, Van Lang University wishes to build a training program with a globally recognized output standard. At once, the collaboration with IHG Academy allows Van Lang students to experience and practice at leading hotel chains at home and abroad. After graduation, students will be provided with maximum support and opportunities to work in a professional and high-class environment. Through cooperation with CTH, Van Lang University also formed a linkage with Swiss Education Group (SEG), creating a stepping stone for cooperation programs, associating with Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS), César Ritz Colleges Switzerland (CRCS) soon.

CTH is considered the gold standard in the industry because it is recognized in many world-class hotels and restaurants, and is transferred back and forth with 20 leading universities worldwide.

InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) Academy is a global network of educational institutions and communities affiliated with hotel chains, offices affiliated to the InterContinental Hotels Group to develop customer service skills, and improve professional skills in the hospitality industry.

Swiss Education Group (SEG) is a network of affiliated schools specializing in Hospitality in Switzerland, with training experience in hotel and tourism management with global standards.
