The night of VietRus Jazz at Van Lang University bonded Vietnam- Russia friendship

(Van Lang, 13th Dec 2019) – In the evening, 12th Dec 2019, a night of VietRus Jazz was held by Embassy of Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, the ASEAN Center of MOSCOW International Relations University and Van Lang University at N2T1 Hall – Campus 3 of Van Lang University. The music night is belonged to the series of activities of Vietnam – Russia cross year 2019, towards to the 70th anniversary of Vietnam – Russia diplomatic relations (1950 – 2020).

The participants in the night of Vietrus Jazz were Mr. Victor Sumsky – Director of ASEAN Center of MOSCOW International Relations University (MGIMO), Mr. Dmitry Krivoshee – Presentative of Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Danil Varich – Attaché of Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Ph.D Tran Thi My Dieu – Principal of Van Lang University, Assoc. Prof. Ph.D Pham Ngoc Doanh – Dean of Faculty of Public Relations and Communications of Van Lang University, and hundreds of Russian and Vietnamese audiences including students from Faculty of Public Relations, Piano and Vocal Music of Van Lang University.

The musical night of VietRus Jazz is one of many cultural activities to celebrate 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between VietNam and Russia. On 24th Oct 2019, the musical night of VietRus Jazz, over 1 month ago, was also held very successfully in Moscow, leaving a strong echo for audiences in the Russian capital. Apart from music exchange, Vietnam – Russia cross year is also marked by many cooperative activities in the fields of culture, education, science, economics,... On 28th May 2019, Van Lang University also accompanied Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training to successfully organize Vietnam – Russia University Rector Forum in Ha Noi, opening up the new cooperation agreements between universities of two countries.

Assoc. Prof. Ph.D Tran Thi My Dieu – Principal of Van Lang University gave an opening speech at the night of VietRus Jazz: “Vietnam and the Russian Federation have had a long traditional relationship. The Vietnamese is very sympathetic towards the Russian and the Russian culture, one of the greatest cultures in the world. That is also one of the reasons Van Lang University enthusiastically participates in cooperation activities with Russia.

We hope that the night of VietRus Jazz will bring a lot of emotions to the audience, and it will be the first step for our other collaborative programs with MOSCOW International Relations University (MGIMO), not only in the field of Art but also in other areas of cooperation.”

Prof. Ph.D Tran Thi My Dieu, Mr. Victor Sumsky, Director of ASEAN Center of MOSCOW International Relations University (MGIMO) shared: "Performance today is held within the framework of the Russian cross year in Vietnam and Vietnam cross year in Russia 2019 – 2020. These events mark 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty on the basic principles of friendly relations and 70 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Vietnam.

At this time, let’s look back and remember all the good things we have done and think about what we will have to do to strengthen Russia – Vietnam diplomatic relations, and it’s important for the Russian to know what modern Vietnamese culture is, and the Vietnamese can know more about the representatives of Russian modern culture.

I would like to express my hope that VietRus Jazz concerts and especially performance today will boost the process of establishing a cooperative relationship between MOSCOW International Relations University and Van Lang University.”

Artist Tran Manh Tuan is considered the top saxophonist in VietNam with bestselling albums like Bien Khat, Ha Trang, Body & Soul, Blue Eyes, Jazz It Up “Sen”… In the night of VietRus Jazz, artist Tran Manh Tuan performed the trumpet, flute and showed off his strong husky voice.

In the night of VietRus Jazz, the music of Tran Manh Tuan brought audience go from the majestic Northwest mountains with performance of “Thang Cuoi” to the Central Highlands open and free through the performance of “Jungle Lullaby”, then a soft and gentle performance of folk songs “Beo Dat May Troi”,… Those pieces of music were composed and fixed by Artist Tran Manh Tuan according to Jazz style.

vlu vietrusjazz oAccompanying Artist Tran Manh Tuan was the famous Russian guitarist Dmitry Maloletov. His flexible fingers like walking on the guitar strings fascinating both the sight and the hearing of the audience at the night of VietRus Jazz.

vlu vietrusjazz cThe highlight of the night concert was the performance of two artists, which combined Vietnamese folk songs and famous Russian songs, all were blown away by the liberal of Jazz music. The entire audience in hall N2T1 of Van Lang University were immersed in melodies from saxophone, guitar, piano, drums and bass.

vlu vietrusjazz dSinger Lam Minh Ngoc – Lecturer of Vocal Music subject - Faculty of Public Relations & Communications of Van Lang University was accompanied on saxophone and guitar by two great artists to perform the song “Nguoi oi nguoi o dung ve” and “Chieu Moscow”. The performance received a lot of applause from audiences.

With 12 featured and attractive performances, uplifting performances of two talented artists, Tran Manh Tuan and Dmitry Maloletov left the audience watching the show with a hearty feelings and intense echo. The borderless language of music really connected Russian – Vietnamese souls, exactly as what the two artists wanted and shared before the show began.

vlu vietrusjazz iBefore the show began, the leadership of Van Lang University had had a meeting and exchanged cooperation with Mr. Victor Sumsky - Director of ASEAN Center of MOSCOW International Relations University (MGIMO) and Representative of Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City; also hold a press conference to introduce information about VietRus Jazz program.

 Speaking at the press conference, Ph.D Nguyen Cao Tri, Vice Chairman of the Board of Van Lang University, expressed his views: “ On May 2019, Van Lang University on behalf of the Government was honored to organize the Vietnam – Russia University Rector Forum, in the context of relations between two countries has been raised to a new development step. Van Lang is a multi – disciplinary university that had many managers and scientists cooperating with Russia.

According to the development of science and technology, Van Lang is one of the pioneering universities seeing the important role of the social humanities, music and art fields to supplement the dry sciences. We attach great importance to cooperation among countries, especially the Russian Federation. We hope that the cooperation relations between Russia and Vietnam in general and between Van Lang and Russia in particular will have new opportunities for us to develop together.”

Responding to the reporter’s question: “Will the N2T1 Hall of Van Lang University meet the sound and space requirements for a music night?”, Tran Manh Tuan Saxophonist fully appreciated: “I was one of the participants of the music night about musician Trinh Cong Son at the 1.600 seats Hall of Van Lang University a few years ago. For N2T1 auditorium today, although smaller, but extremely suitable for Jazz music quite picky to audience. The auditorium is very modern with sound, light and coziness, I believe that through the night, people will be satisfied and find the answer.”

Assoc.
