Ms. Doan Thi Kieu Oanh - Lecturer of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, said: “The project started by leading FCG delegation to visit District 9 in June, 2019. When I arrived there, I was surprised by the peacefulness of this area, just like at the countryside. I saw a green space, even flocks of sheep, 200-year-old temples with unique architecture and the Historical and Cultural Park. It was also the first time I knew that there are more interesting things in Saigon than high-rises and shopping malls.

After surveying, the Finnish team planed and discussed with Vietnamese members to come up with an appropriate design plan. It was such a difficult time when we could not arrange meetings due to busy workload and different time-zone. I became a "carrier pigeon". After meeting with this side, I summarized and informed the other. I became familiar with planning maps, the colors of the map, and read documents related to urban planning. It is quite interesting. The two sides always listened to each other's opinions and made timely adjustments.

Standing in front of a large hall, reporting a non-professional issue, I was quaking with fear. Fortunately, everything ended well.

In addition, the project focused on creating discussion forums to integrate citizens into the entire development process of the city, which users co-create and co-explore, check and evaluate new ideas, new products so as to apply to improve urban life.

The Finnish team won the Consolation Prize, which is worth VND 400 million. Despite not reaching the highest expectation, this is a great achievement of hard work and solidarity.

The most special thing in Van Lang team is that there are two students majoring in Architecture accompanied with lectures: Nguyen Pham Nhat Tu, a senior (5th year) and Vu Le Minh Quan, a fourth-year student. Encouraging students to participate in a major competition, seeing them have a chance to experience and gain practical experience of the future work are the aspiration of our university.
