(Admission Office – Van Lang, 13, December 2018) – After the 1st extra curriculum activities to People Hospital Gia Dinh (Ho Chi Minh City) at the beginning of the first semester, pharmaceutical students had another field trip to Army Medical Hospital Number 4 ( Binh Duong Province).
On 21st June 2017, Ministry of Education & Training promulgated the Decision no.2263/QĐ-BGDĐT that permits Van Lang University to train Pharmacology at undergraduate level – 5-years full time training. Van Lang University‘s first class pharmacological students experienced 6 field trips to Army Medical hospital Number 4 (Thuan An ward, Binh Duong province), on 16/11, 23/11, 07/12. Army Medical Hospital Number 4 has a spacious, open and clean campus which is adequate for visiting, examining and treating illness to patients. Ms. Dinh Thi Bach, lecturer of Medical Faculty at Van Lang University, who leads a group of 20 pharmacological students to visit with excitement. Lecturers and students were welcomed by Nguyen Minh Luan, pharmacist in charge of traditional herb garden.
After 3 days practicing at hospital, Due to the enthusiastic & attractive guidance from Mr. Luan, students were able to identified and direct contact with over 60 types of drugs, 7 classes that used for flu & fever, arthritis, indigestion, liver disease, neuroleptic drug, counter-poison treatment.
Western medicine divided into 2 stalls: insurance-supported and commercial stall with variety of medicine. In each sections, students were introduced to many type of medicine: anti-bacteria, digestive medicine, liver-disease medicine, etc. Medicine is sold by prescription or on demand
For traditional medicine, all the medicine material was preserved in dried condition. The scents of dried herbs filled the room. Students were excited to have a direct contact with dried herb via hand-touch and sniff the smell of every medical herb and also they observe the shape of the dried herbs.
Pham Thi Hieu, pharmacist, leaded students and lecturers during the 2nd session, she was energetic and her love and strong profession knowledge impressed students. After guiding students with specialized knowledge, and working environment at the hospital, she also asked students about their challenges and any further question they had. Due to her experience, she gave precious and beneficial advices on learning and working in this particular profession.
In the 3rd practicing session, Mr. Luan leaded lecturer and students to the all the departments, Medicine department, acupuncture room, traditional medicine treating room. Every afternoon, students went through all the knowledge learning from the observation trip and illustrated the learnt theory in to the daily life circumstances for the better memorization of students.
3 learning days at Army Medical hospital Number 4 was the excited memory for Van Lang university’s pharmacological students. The observation trips helped students learning and researching, especially supported Practical Pharmacy (medicine identification). This was essential for the establishment of foundation knowledge for students, and created the advantage for learning specialized subjects. Besides that, this was an opportunity for students to learn experience from their senior about manner, ethics of the profession that inspired them to give their best for their future profession.
