Van Lang University completed Educational Quality Evaluation for the bachelor’s programs in Environmental Engineering, Graphic Design, Accounting, and Hospitality Management under AUN-QA standards

(VLU, 20/01/2021) – On 14 January 2022, the Closing Ceremony for Educational Quality Evaluation for Van Lang University under the AUN-QA standards took place after an official five-day processing period (10 to 14 January 2022). The evaluating committee from AUN-QA had generated preliminary reports for four bachelor’s programs including Environmental Engineering, Accounting, Hospitality Management, and Graphic Design.

In the previous years, VLU’s quality-assuring code was developed systematically and acquired accreditations from local and international university ranking organizations. In 2016, a primary goal for Van Lang University was to satisfy the educational standards set by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). The university aimed to build training programs coping with the local and international demands in a 4.0 era.

vlu aun qa aOn 10 January 2022, Van Lang University organized the Opening Ceremony for educational evaluation under the AUN-QA standards for four bachelor’s programs including Environmental Engineering, Graphic Design, Accounting, and Hospitality Management.

Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri – Chairman of VLG’s Board of Directors, Chairman of VLU, said: “This event marks the first time that Van Lang University has an educational quality evaluation under AUN-QA standards. More importantly, we understand that educational quality evaluation is a step forward and reminds us to keep up the good work for all VLU members. We believe from what AUN-QA specialists evaluate, we can carry out improvement in our training programs to cope with the local and international demands and enhance the training quality. Our foremost target is an ever-improving educational quality, that helps promote each VLU student’s performance upon their graduation. Our students shall become high-skilled labor force for our country and the local region to promote postive influences, and inspire community as the university’s missions.”

The evaluating committee from AUN-QA consisted of ten members directly working with Van Lang University. They were Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizam Ab Rahman – Vice-Chancellor of University Kebangsaan Malaysia; Dr. Anne Lan K. Candelaria – Associate-Dean for Graduate Programs of Ateneo de Manila University; Prof. Dr. Alyssa Peleo-Alampay – University of the Philippines, Assistant Professor Vice President for Academic Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanog-on Rungrojngarmcharoen – Center for International Studies - Srinakharinwirot University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vimolvan Pimpan – Deputy Director of Academic Testing Center of Chulalongkorn University; Prof. Dr. Merlin Teodosia Suarez – De La Salle University; Prof. Dr. Wyona C. Patalinghug – Vice-President of AUN-QA Council – Former Director of Education Assurance Office – De La Salle University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittisak Yokthongwattana – Vice-Deam of the Faculty of Education and Student Training – Mahidol University; Ms. Kritsaporn Rithichaidumrongkul (JAM) – AUN-QA Specialist.

vlu aun aEnvironmental Engineering, Accounting, Hospitality Management, and Graphic Design were the first four bachelor’s programs at Van Lang University to went through the educational quality evaluation under AUN-QA standards under the hybrid assessing method.

AUN-QA Evaluating Committee had a five-day working period on a hybrid assessing method with Van lang University. The specialists carried out the evaluation for self-assessment, proof of training activities, interviews with Deans, lecturers, staff, students, and official inspection for falicities.

vlu aun eThe Environmental Engineering program had 78 lecturers, staff, students, and alumni who attended the interviews.

vlu aun cThe Graphic Design program had 72 lecturers, staff, students, and alumni joined the interviews.

vlu aun dThe Accounting program had 74 lecturers, staff, students and alumni attended the interviews.

vlu aun fThe Hospital Management program had 77 lecturers, staff, students, and alumni who attended the interviews.

After various sessions, on 14 January 2022, the Closing Ceremony for educational quality assurance under AUN-QA for the programs in Environmental Engineering, Accounting, Graphic Design, and Hospitality Management took place virtually. At the ceremony, All AUN-QA specialists discussed their overall reports on the four training programs. The specialists identified the strong points of the programs and proposed solutions to overcome the standing setbacks. Those reports would be valuable references for the staff of those four training programs to look at and improve their training programs in the future.

Prof.Dr. Wyona C. Patalinghug – Vice-President of AUN-QA Council, Former Director of the Quality Assurance Office of De La Salle University, dedicated her appreciation to Van Lang University, especially the lecturers from the four evaluated training programs for their hard work. In addition, Prof.Dr. Wyona C. Patalinghug hoped Van Lang University would be persistent in improving its training programs and having more training programs to be evaluated under AUN-QA standards soon.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – President of Van Lang University said: “Van Lang University might be new to AUN-QUA, but we had been preparing for a long time to take educational quality evaluation under AUN-QA standards. What we achieve today is not only essential to the four evaluated programs but also a good lesson for all remaining programs of Van Lang University. It is an important milestone and the foundation to help those four training programs to perform even better promptly.”

After the ceremony, the AUN-QA specialists should work on reports and verifications before announcing the final outcomes. It was a memorable milestone for Van Lang to work with AUN-QA Evaluating Committee to help reaffirm Van Lang University and the four evaluated training programs’ quality. We hope all participating training programs from Van Lang University would get positive outcomes and gain a strong foundation for their international outreach.
