The Faculty of Tourism organized a gathering for the postgraduate students of course 1 and signed an MOU with Marriott Worldwide Business Councils Vietnam – Cambodia

(VLU07/01/2022) – On 06 January 2022, for the first time, Van Lang University organized a gathering for the Master’s students of course 1 in Hospitality Management and Tourism & Leisure Management. The event took place at the N2T1 conference hall at Van Lang University’s main campus. It welcomed the attendance of the companies and leaders from leading hospitality service providers in Vietnam and the local regions.

The Master’s program in Hospitality Management and Tourism & Leisure Management are two new postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Tourism, initially recruiting students in 2021. With the Faculty of Tourism’s solid foundation and Van Lang University’s 26 years of experience, students could approach a firm source of professional knowledge, enhance their leadership in a modern context of hospitality, tourism ad leisure, improve their capability and carry out related research topics. Therefore, they could become managers, leaders, researchers, and lecturers both in a local and international environment.

From Van Lang University, the gathering and MOU signing ceremony welcomed Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri – Chairman of Van Lang University, Chairman and General Director of Capella Holdings’ Board of Directors, Dr. Nguyen Dac Tam – Vice-Chairman of Van Lang University’s Founding Committee, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – President; Dr. Ngo Quang Trung – Vice-President; Dr. Le Minh Thanh – Faculty of Tourism’s Dean; MA. Hoang Ngoc Hien – Faculty of Tourism’s Vice-Dean; Dr. To Hoai Thang – Head of the Department of Postgraduate Studies.

From the Consulate Generals and HCMC’s Department of Tourism, there was Ms. Eva Kurniati Situmorang – Consulate of Indonesia; Ms. Tran Thi Hai Van – Specialist of the Office of Tourism Management from HCMC’s Department of Tourism.

Ms. Than Thi Thu Thao – Deputy Director of Capella Holdings; Mr. Julian Uong – General Director of Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers; Mr. Justin Malcolm – General Director of Le Meridien Saigon; Ms. Nguyen Dinh Da Cam – HR Director of Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers; Ms. Quang Thi Minh Tam – HR Director of Renaissance Riverside Saigon; Ms. Doan Tran Phuong Thao – HR Director of IHG – Southern Vietnam and Laos region; Ms. Tran Thi Minh Thao  - Product and Service Director of Viettravel; Ms. Phan Thi Hoai An – VinHMS Software Trading and Manufacturing Limited Company – a Vingroup’s company are the representatives from the companies and hospitality chains.

The tourism market is recovering after the setbacks caused by the pandemic outbreak in the last two years. Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri said: “Tourism and service sector is among the ten major business fields seizing more than 10% of the national GDP. The pandemic outbreak brought many challenges and opportunities for breakthroughs. Van Lang Group will soon establish a school of tourism under Van Lang University, build a new campus collaborated by studying and business activities with an estimated capacity of 300 rooms; have innovations as a key development, integrate information technology, lead new trends, inspire the learners, and yield to success.”

With a well-design curriculum consisting of detailed training parts including general knowledge, professional training, and fundamental and professional knowledge of certain specializations, the master’s programs of the Faculty of Tourism offer students the engagement to necessary skills for their career path as senior managers or further academic career.

The gathering for master’s students of the Faculty of Tourism also marked the first cooperation between Van Lang University and Marriott Worldwide Business Councils Vietnam – Cambodia which is operating 14 hotels and resorts in Vietnam and Cambodia via Marriott International – the largest hotel operating group in the world with more than 7,000 hotel, 1.1 million of rooms and 30 brand names. In Vietnam, this hotel group owns many well-known hotel chains such as JW Marriott, Sheraton, Le Meridien, and Renaissance. The event was also an opportunity for the master’s students of the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University to “study from practical experience.”

According to the MOU, Van Lang University and Marriott Worldwide Business Councils Vietnam – Cambodia should facilitate the students to visit, experientially learn, and take an internship at a hotel in its chain; carry out joint programs for tourism and hospitality students; practice career consultancy for students; organize job fairs and provide training for interviews, recruiting process, profile making; hold talk show in tourism and hospitality for students.
