Van Lang University established the Science and Technology Advanced Institute (STAI)

(VLU01/10/2021– On the morning of 01 October 2021, VLU’s BoD had announced the establishment of the Science and Technology Advanced Institute – STAI. The new entity was expected to create breakthroughs in scientific and technological research for the University.

All VLU’s BoD had attended and witnessed the establishment of the Science and Technology Advanced Institute (STAI). The event welcomed Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri – Chairman of Van Lang University; Prof. Dr. Le Vinh Danh – Senior Advisor; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – President; Dr. Vo Van Tuan – Standing Vice President; Dr. Ngo Quang Trung and Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha – Vice President; MSc. Hoang Son Dien – CEO; MSc. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy – Standing Member of VLG’s BoD; and more than 80 deans and heads of the faculties and departments.

In the same event, Van Lang University assigned Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Phong as the STAI’s Director.

As VLU aims to become one of the World’s top universities, starting from AY 2021 – 2022, the University persists in launching more innovative policies for scientific research and technology transfer to motivate and attract local and international scholars for cooperation. The initiation of STAI allowed Van Lang University to enhance the scientific research activities both in quality and quantity. It also helped solve the country’s scientific challenges and promote Vietnam’s contribution to the World’s scientific research activities.

On behalf of the BoD, Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri – Chairman of Van Lang University, said: “Science and Technology play important roles in many organizations, especially at the universities. According to the BoD’s visions, STAI was founded to bring forth breakthroughs for science and technology and reposition Van Lang University in Vietnam and the World’s scientific research map. STAI and Van Lang University aimed to become the right hand of the organizations, enterprises and even the Government to offer the solutions for interdisciplinary problems in the upcoming years.”

Prof. Dr. Le Vinh Danh – Van Lang University’s Senior Advisor, reaffirmed: “If we want to keep up with the current trend, we must focus on science and technology. With the companion of enthusiastic members and the best achievers in scientific research, I hope STAI will become the motivator to help Van Lang University bring about more meaningful achievements. It is also the University’s determination in investment for education.”

STAI welcomed many renowned scholars from Japan, Mexico, Vietnam, South Korea, Belgium, and Israel to cooperate and research. The Institute’s body currently consisted of 14 Professors, Associate Professors, and PhDs, including many young scientists owning outstanding international journal publications and prestigious national and international awards. There were the lowest publishing counts of 10 ISI-indexed papers and the highest publishing counts of 231 ones. Their H-index ranged from 9 to 34. More importantly, all of them completed their Ph.D. degree at famous institutions overseas or worked for first-world countries’ universities and institutions for many years. Mentionable outstanding individuals were Dr. Nguyen Truong Thanh Hieu (Ta Quang Buu Award 2020, Asian’s 100 most brilliant scientists 2021), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan The Long (currently working in South Korea with 231 ISI-indexed papers and the H-index of 34.) The Institute also had World’s renowned scholars as its advisors, such as Prof. Naftali Auerbach – Israel’s infamous high energy physicist with the H-index of 34, Dr. Morimitsu Tanimoto – Japan’s famous Space Scientist with the H-index of 36, Dr. Young-Ill Lee – Chairman of the Korean Society of Analytical Chemistry with the H-index of 34, Prof. Nguyen Minh Tho – Belgium’s well-known scholar with the H-index of 55, and Prof. Hoang Ngoc Long – Vietnam’s theoretical physics with the H-index of 27.

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Phong – STAI’s Director, confirmed that the Institute would soon become a standard in scientific research, welcome local and international scholars to cooperate and research, contribute to help the University’s research activities reach the international standards, and bright about VLU’s target to become a global university according to the visions of VLU.

The Science and Technology Advanced Institute aimed to make Van Lang University one of Asia’s and the World’s best research universities by 2031, with key focuses in Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, etc. The Institute’s activities should attract local and internationally renowned scholars to research, cooperate in significant projects, Government joint projects, and international projects to contribute to developing and applying specific scientific fields and interdisciplinary technologies in Vietnam.
