The first course of postgraduate education in Biotechnology: A rewarding internship!

(Van Lang, August 17, 2019) – “A rewarding internship” is a feedback of the students taking the first course of postgraduate education in Biotechnology at Van Lang University after the internship at the Tissue Culture Lab of Phong Lan Biotechnology Joint Stock Company (Long An province) from August 7 to 12, 2019.

From the early morning of August 7, 2019, a group of first course graduate students – major in Biotechnology – Department of Environment and Biotechnology, Van Lang University under the guidance of the team leader – PhD. Vu Thi Quyen gathered at the Campus 1 to start the trip to Phong Lan Biotechnology Company (Hamlet 1, Phuoc Dong Commune, Can Duoc District, Long An Province) for 5-day internship which is a requirement of Advanced Plant Biotechnology. At the lab, PhD. Vu Thi Quyen introduced a multi-stage shaking system applied to new samples (growth peaks of plants) contained in Erlenmeyer flasks under the influence of nutrient environment within 24 shaking hours. Stages of growth of seedlings from the time of sample entry, scar tissue formation, shoot formation, biomass to root were explained in detail to students by PhD. Vu Thi Quyen.

Based on the observation, PhD. Vu Thi Quyen assigned the exercises to each member (according to the lecture on practicing Biotechnology) and instructed the students how to use the equipment and how to inoculate. After that, the students took the initiative in creating a farming environment, choosing the samples and tools to perform their exercises.
