From the field trips, students will master and complete the knowledge they have learned; visually witnessing and learning the actual model of animal husbandry, moreover, will help students gradually form the skills for themselves. Accompanying students in this field trip is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Xuyen - Deputy Dean of Faculty of Environment and Biotechnology and Dr. Vu Thi Quyen – a teacher in charge of the subjects in the first semester of the academic year 2018-2019.

This field trip is also the first time the biotechnology industry of Van Lang University has cooperated with Mr. Truong Van Thuan's cow farm and Nga Ba Giong Agricultural Cooperative to offer students a practical learning session through actual observation after school hours.

At Truong Van Thuan's cow farm, the students of the third year in biotechnology heard farm owners introducing the cattle, the number of cattle raised, the size of the farm and the techniques applied (types of barns, types of food, methods of disease prevention and treatment and etc.), productivity and quality of milk, process of milk processing branded My Vi.

Mr. Thuan (who holds the mic) is very fun, open to share practical experiences with Van Lang students. The students are very interested while attentively listening to him and recording

During the trip, Tran Duc Yen - Vice Chairman of the Cooperative, also shared many experiences on VietGAP production, including seedling selection, tillage, cultivation techniques, plant protection, harvest and preservation, and distribution to the market.

VietGAP (Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices) means Good Agricultural Practices in Vietnam issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for each product or group of fishery products, cultivation and husbandry

On the farm, students heard the lecturer in charge of the subject further explain the knowledge related to raising cattle and growing vegetables in accordance with VietGAP standards, especially the applications of Biotechnology in food for cattle, veterinary care, handling of cages and the production of fresh milk, yoghurt from cow's milk.

In the field of cultivation, students were taught to specific applications in soil treatment, microbial application in seed treatment and especially applying herb in plant protection, restricting the use of chemical drugs and growth stimulants, harvest time, packing and transportation of vegetables, fruits and vegetables within a day to keep the quality. The teacher and her team had many professional discussions with farm owners, access to quality control technology and a complete milk packaging line. Students were also given a try to test quality and make on-site evaluation. After the trip, they were required to write the report to assess the effectiveness of the field trip; based on the reviews the faculty of biotechnology will adjust and improve the field trips in the future.

In the coming time, the faculty of biotechnology will create more cooperation with the farms and cooperatives of HCMC in general and neighboring provinces in particular so that students can practice more and perfect their expertise and skills.
