Van Lang – The First Destination of UniTour 2018 (UNESCO)

(Admission OfficeVan Lang, 22/9/2018)  – At 8:00 p.m. on September 16, 2018, at Hall C001 – Campus  2, Van Lang University, the program “Secrets to conquer recruiters – Talent Generation 2018” (the beginning of the UniTour 2018 series) offered students the authentic training sections of how to be a successful candidate in an interview..

Van Lang University is the first destination to mark the return of UniTour – a series of training events at 16 universities nationwide, being part of Today's Voice project and going under the framework of the competition “Talent Generation 2018” held by UNESCO-CEP and GAP Academy. This is the first year that Van Lang students have learnt and experienced the skill of "conquering recruiters". In fact, the program did attract the enthusiastic support of more than 300 students, especially the third and fourth year students coming from the schools of Economics. What’s more, the program also brings the recruitment opportunity jobs from Techcombank, a partner of the program to the students.

Today's Voice belongs to the cooperation program between the UNESCO-CEP and Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank), which nurtures young Vietnamese talents.

The program's speakers are Mr. Pham Hong Anh – GAP's CEO and Talent Generation 2018 Program Director, and Mr. Le Dinh Hieu – CEO of GAP Academy. With many years in the field of business, education on recruitment of personnel, both of them gave much stress on the two main areas: knowledge of recruiter and interviewing skills. As a result, students are well-equipped with the conception of “a successful candidate” as well as to grasp and understand the requirements of the recruiter, and job interview skills.

Knowledge about the recruiter

Knowing people: Recruiters will recruit candidates according to three criteria: Matching the culture of the company, specialized skills and long-term goals. Therefore, candidates must find out about the company profile through the reliable sources and channels of information such as company website, newspapers, facebook of seasoned employees, etc., to have an objective perspective of working environment. With reference to the above mentioned, candidates are supposed to take themselves into full consideration for the job vacancies so far.

Knowing you: To be able to conquer professional recruiters, applicants must show that they are the best candidates for the job openings in a diplomatic way because the recruiters are increasingly using interviewing techniques designed to ferret out the best from the merely bragging. In fact, you must have employability skills, understand your strengths and weaknesses to target and excel yourself. Moreover, you also need to be well prepared with the Interviewing skills, responding and reflective skills with the A.S.K model (Attitude – Skills – Knowledge). Simultaneously, Mr. Pham Hong Anh also points out the 10 common mistakes that students often make when they are in an interview. Besides, many other practical experience stories of his are kindly fulfilled to help students come close to their dreams.

Interview skills

While Mr. Pham Hong Anh provides theoretical knowledge, the lecturer, Mr. Le Dinh Hieu equips students with the basic skills for a real interview. Mr. Le Dinh Hieu presents the FAQs that recruiters often use then the students are kindly asked to analyze them in detail. In consequence of being under his guidance, students are expected to know how to make impression on the employers at the first sight.

DHVL diem den dau tien su kien unitour 4Mr. Nguyen Dang Anh Khoa, the 4th year student majoring in Finance & Banking, takes part in a simulation job interview with a recruiter from G.A.P Institute.

Mr. Le Dinh Hieu said “two things to note in the interview is analyzig the questions of the employer to answer them effectively and the body language to create sympathy with the employer as well. The students are fascinated to watch throughout the program and are excited with the speaker’s job-simulation exercises that fulfill their future job ahead.

At the end of the presentation, the audiences applauded vigorously for the speakers and the effort it took to address the public audiences, and to acknowledge the opportunity afforded them to see and hear the speakers. In this instance, Mr. Nguyen Dang Anh Khoa, the senior student of Finance and Banking participated in the interview and also had the opportunity to work at GAP Institute as well as at Techcombank. With the aim of enhancing the quality of human resources provided to society, Van Lang University is more and more interested in bringing students the best practical programs for learning and experiencing.

In addition to sharing knowledge and experience for students, the program also brings information about the Talent Generation 2018 contest to Van Lang students to offer them the opportunity to try and experience themselves through the aptitude test as well as the two-round-Online-and-Offline challenge, with extremely attractive prizes.
