Summer training 2018 - Designing a course syllabus and Rubric

(Admission Office  – Van Lang, Aug/9th/2018) - From August 08 to August 14, 2018, Van Lang University organized the Summer Training program with the theme "Designing a course syllabus and Rubric" for 12 departments of the school.

In recent years, education orienting to develop the optimal competence of learners has become indispensable. With this trend, the focus of training programs must shift from theoretical knowledge to learner's practical abilities. Van Lang University, therefore, has been actively and urgently taking steps to improve and standardize training programs for all sectors of the university since 2017

After three training sessions with regards to the AUN-QA standard for 3 principles (Accounting, Commercial Business and Interior Design), the school is aware of the need for designing syllabus and rubric. It is also believed that it will be useful for teachers, faculty members and leaders. The 2018 Summer Training Program was organized by Van Lang University based on the actual demand of the training and upgrading activities for the staff.

It was the fact that these programs had not been thoroughly reviewed and there was no unified construction process according to DACUM standard. They were, as a result, difficult to meet needs of the society. Practical training programs could help to "fire" the trainees in designing course syllabus in accordance with learner capacity and market demand.

A syllabus showed not only allocation of study time and teaching outlines, but also instructions for lecturers to improve students’ skills and abilities. Van Lang teachers and officers were also instructed to use the Rubric tool to evaluate students' academic performance.
